213 - Torkjell Hovland #6 - Chaos

Lenge siden - greetings again listeners after a decent length hiatus from us at SVS! We return with a stellar mix from resident host Torkjell Hovland taking us on his own distinct musical journey. In his own words, "... sometimes music is everywhere, and in everything. Sometimes it drives me mad, other times it soothes. As a music journalist, music can create absurd encounters, moments. 187 - OJKOS - Sigrid Aftret

Saxophonist/composer Sigrid Aftret presents the latest OJKOS mix spanning the contrasting landscapes of Gil Evans, Anna Webber, Henry Thredgill and Igor Stravinsky informing her own intrepid musical style. She directs the OJKOS residency performance at Victoria next Tuesday for those curious to discover more.

Anna Webber - Kore II [10:24]
Henry Threadgill - 100 Year Old Game [14:10]
Igor Stravinsky - Requiem Canticles [25:07]

///

Sigrid Aftret is a saxophonist and composer based in Oslo. She studied jazz at the Norwegian Academy of Music and CNSMDP, the music conservatory in Paris. During her studies she got more curious about writing, and joined composition classes for both jazz, classical and contemporary music styles. In her music she implies serial structures and rhythmic and melodic counterpoints to create tension and unpredicted turns in her music. Creating her jazz quintet Bêl made it possible to experiment with an atypical instrumentation, and to develop her musical identity through composing.
